The Mare On The Hill
LuLu
A big thank you for all of the inquiries about the cover photo of the "mare on the hill" recently posted on our CJWare Facebook page.
That mare is our beloved family pet and now our racing broodmare babysitter, LuLu. However, she represents so much more to us personally because of her long and rich history with our family. She is now twenty-six years old, and she lives a pampered life these days.
Lulu was bred and raised by Mr. John Scott, S Ranch, who I consider to be the best livestock man I’ve ever known. She is sired by Mr. John’s great old son of Doc O’Lena, Doc O’Dynamite, and she was purchased by my brother, Buddy Ware, in the John Scott Ranch Dispersal Sale, August 18 & 19, 2000, in Billings, Montana.
Not only was that sale probably the best Ranch Horse Sale in history, but it was also historic in that it was the first sale that Ben Emison, Milt Bradford and I produced as the newly formed company, WESTERN BLOODSTOCK. People came from all over the world and witnessed the selling of Mr. John’s breeding stock, including Paddys Irish Whiskey for $550,000.
Lulu became a permanent resident with us in Texas after Buddy’s death in 2005. She has entertained countless children and many adults, as well. We don’t saddle her up anymore, but she is still a great sport as small children love to get their picture made on her bareback (and feed her cookies).
A BIG SALUTE to Mr. John Scott – he knew what he was doing!
