ONTHROCKS GETS 2ND STRAIGHT STAKES VICTORY IN RETAMA PARK’S TQHA 550

SELMA, TX–JULY 28, 2023–In a determined drive under jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr., Onthrocks picked up his second consecutive stakes victory with a three-quarter length victory as the post time favorite for the $54,250 TQHA 550 Stakes at Retama Park Friday night.

The son of leading third-crop sire A Revenant raced over the 550 yard distance in :27.919 seconds, equaling a 94 speed index into a 10 mph headwind. It was the fifth career win for the Esteban Rubio trainee.

A homebred racing for owner-breeder Ware Racing and Ranching LLC, Onthrocks is out of the Stoli mare Stol A Bunny. The $32,550 winner’s purse tonight boosted Onthrocks’s lifetime earnings mark to $108,637. He entered the race off a win in the Sam Houston 550 Stakes on June 17.

Dm Frankie Blue Eyes finished second for owner Jesus Betancourt and trainer Juan Hernandez. Jose Hebert had the riding call abroad the 3-year-old First Prize Jordan colt out of Dm Maryanna by The Louisiana Cartel. Bred by Donna Mushinski, Dm Frankie Blue Eyes earned $10,850 to increase his earnings to $30,416.

Dm Preacher Man was a half-length back to earn $5,968 for third. Trainer Kie Mushinski named jockey Froylan Ramirez to ride the A Revenant 4-year-old for owner-breeder Donna Mushinski. Out of Mary Lajolla by Streakin La Jolla multiple stakes-placed Dm Preacher Man has earned $56,445.

Em Jess Ronas Cash and Eagle Shot completed the field. Viva Le Don was scratched.
